walking & figuring out possible sites

Hiked the trails again in Oak Tree Park and then walked the length of Water Flume Line Trail for the 3rd or 4th time to start nailing down some possible sites for artwork...

This iconic pump station was a WPA project from the 30s.  Am thinking the recessed panels might be a perfect canvas for 4 small murals created by a local artist.  Exact concept to be determined, but I could see a layering of water/aquatic-themes, local & New Deal history, celebration of infrastructure, environmental stewardship, etc.  Thinking subdued blue-green palette that would coordinate with other proposed artwork along the trail.

There's a series of overflow pipes along the trail that could be readymade canvases for a simple artistic intervention.

Though we had discussed a grouping of large boulders near the trailside entry to Oak Tree Park that could correspond with a grove of planted Garry Oaks, another idea might be to place a trio or singular iconic stone in the middle of the quarry.  Incised with fossil, flora & fauna imagery, it could serve as a sort of atlas or field guide for plants & animals found in the park.

Another simple intervention would involve painting a singular iconic Garry Oak blue.  Other artists have done this in projects elsewhere for various purposes.  Here it would signify & honor the iconic tree & habitat the park is known for.

A stone/steel bike rack at the trailside park entry could encourage riders to secure their bikes and take a short hike within the park.  The rack could function as an entry marker and offer up some more fossil, flora & fauna images engraved in the stone.

Though there's several benches scattered along the trail, it might be fun to place a series of stone benches with incised texts to provide more informal seating.  Am thinking a poetic narrative that weaves from Oak Tree Park to Oakwood Cemetery could help tie the project together...and perhaps offer an opportunity for a local poet.
