blue tree

Selecting one large, highly-visible Garry Oak for coloring blue could draw attention to its iconic cragginess and provide instant locational wayfinding for quite a distance.  It would highlight the anomalous beauty of this unique species and ecosystem.  Several similar projects by other artists and civic groups have set precedent in different settings throughout the world.  Additional research is needed to locate environmentally-friendly paint that won’t harm the underlying tree.

Another thing to consider is tying all project elements together with the color blue.  Simply painting the ‘art boulders’, flume, the tree, murals and any other project elements blue would really unify the artwork, making a clear statement about its interrelated nature.  This is something we should discuss, as I can see distinct benefits and drawbacks to such an approach.
